Fury erupted in eastern Afghanistan today after US soldiers were once again accused of killing civilians during a night raid on a private house.

The assault on the compound in the village of Qal'eh-ye Allah Nazar in Nangahar province occurred at about 1am, leaving several people dead.

Officials said it was an intelligence-led operation and that eight people had been killed during a shootout, including a Taliban sub-commander. Weapons had been recovered from the compound, they said.

That was not how the incident was seen by family members, neighbours and the local population, 500 of whom demonstrated outside the office of the governor of Surkh Rod district. One person was reported by locals to have been killed and two injured after the crowd tried to enter the government buildings.

Ahmad Zia Ab-razai, a spokesman for the provincial governor, said 14 civilians had been "murdered" and three injured. He said local authorities had started an investigation and had been in contact with US forces, who are usually responsible for mounting night operations, and was told they were looking for a Taliban commander called Shamsul Rahman.

Mohammad Rafi, 38, a member of the family whose mother and son were killed, said he was in bed when US soldiers, some of whom had climbed over the high mud walls of the traditional fort-like building, entered the compound. "They shouted out that they were coming to search the building, but then they entered the rooms and shot everyone they found, one by one," he said.

This year Stanley McChrystal, the overall commander of Nato forces in Afghanistan, has taken steps to reduce the number of night raids, which are one of the key causes of anger towards foreigners.

The Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, has called for a ban, but McChrystal has reserved the right to continue using the controversial technique.

The issue of civilian causalities was at the top of Karzai's agenda during meetings this week in Washington with Barack Obama and other senior US administration officials.

Some incidents involving night raids have subsequently been revealed as disastrous mistakes, launched on the basis of faulty intelligence.

The leading theory among villagers was that spies or simply disgruntled locals had fed false information to the US military.

Abdul Hussain, a relative of the dead who lives in the same village, said it was widely assumed that the Americans were using weak intelligence.

He said: "These people were totally innocent. They had no connection with the Taliban but they were killed because of spies. It is very possible that because of the land they owned and their wealth that there could have been a family dispute.

"President Karzai has promised many times that he would stop these incidents, but nothing ever happens. All we want is for the government to find the spy and bring him to justice."

These kids (mostly boys) who would prefer to be out in the fields exploring or playing sports are normal, but are just not in tune with the inanities of learning complicated Math or French Conversation, for example.

Children are not the only ones affected by ADHD. Parents often suffer and go through large amounts of extra stress because of their child’s attention deficit and hyperactivity. It is important to keep your priorities in order when dealing with ADHD. Your first priority should be helping the child to overcome the condition. Many people want a quick and painless way to “avoid” the stresses of parenting a child with ADHD. For this reason, parents all over the country have begun turing to prescription drugs as the only viable solution. They make the symptoms go away and that makes everybody happy.... right?

Sure, it makes teachers happy when the child isn’t being mischievous and is actually paying attention in class. Sure, it makes the parents happy when they stop getting calls from the school and the child seems to listen to them more. But what about your child?

The child is under a medication that changes the way his or her brain operates. Read that again and think about it. The child is being medicated in a way that changes the way his or her brain operates. That means that ideas and impulses that would have originally come out of the child’s brain are sometimes suppressed.

These medications are designed to suppress things in a child’s brain. They suppress the brain so other people don’t have to. It might be a good idea to learn alternate ways to help your child with ADHD. The best reason I can think of for this is that these people had ADHD and they did not take Ritalin for it.

I think it’s safe to say after looking at this list, that prescriptions are not always necessary. A child must be taught to cope with his or her condition and then the “condition” may become a gift. While ADHD has its cons, it also has its pros.

Many people might ask “what in the world could be a pro with ADHD?” While children with ADHD have extreme difficulty paying attention to things that do not interest them, they can focus as well as anyone on things that do interest them. It’s important to be aware that difficult behavior may indicate special abilities. Can you imagine what might not have been if Thomas Edison was on Ritalin?

Children, like adults, continued to be sentenced to death for a very large number of felonies up to 1834 although it was normal for younger children to have their sentences commuted for the less serious crimes as there was public disquiet about hanging children and there is little actual evidence of anyone under 14 years old being hanged in the 19th century, despite what you might read in some books to the contrary. As stated earlier, executions were decreasing rapidly, both for adults and young offenders after 1834, as the number of capital crimes reduced and public attitudes changed. John and his 11 year old brother, James, killed Richard Taylor for the sum of nine shillings (45p) which he was collecting from the Parish on behalf of his disabled father. They were tried on Friday, the 29th of July and because the second day after sentence would have been a Sunday, John was hanged on the Monday using the "New Drop" scaffold, erected outside Maidstone prison. Bell was probably the youngest person to be hanged in the 19th century. In 1833, a boy of 9 was sentenced to death at Maidstone Assizes for housebreaking but was reprieved after public agitation. Five 17 year olds were hanged in public between 1836 and 1868, including Sarah Thomas, who suffered at Bristol on the 20th of April 1849 for the murder of her mistress. She was hysterical at the end and even Calcraft was noticeably upset by her execution. Sarah was the last of 9 teenage girls hanged between 1800 and 1849. Constance Kent who confessed to murdering her brother when she was 16 had her death sentence commuted to life in prison in 1865 due to her age at the time of her crime. Drawing and Quartering was a punishment meted out to those poor souls who had been found guilty of treason. It was basically a long, painful death drawn out over several acts. This is how you do it:

1. Drag the condemned to a suitable spot. There should be a tree nearby.
2. Hang the prisoner from the tree, but cut him down before he dies.
3. Slit open the prisoner's stomach and draw out their entrails.
4. Burn said entrails before the prisoner's eyes.
5. Decapitate the condemned.
6. Divide the body into four parts. Sometimes this was done with a sword, and sometimes it was done by tying the four remaining limbs to four horses and tearing the body apart.

It had to come. No foreign occupation attempt in Afghanistan has ever succeeded.

Just as Hitler did not learn the lesson of Napoleon's defeat in Russia, the Americans attacked Afghanistan, forgetting the Soviet Union failed as did the British a century before.

U.S. troops (called United Nations) have retreated to the larger cities and are forever being attacked there, not just by the elusive Al Qaida and Taliban forces but by ordinary Afghani citizens who are prepared to die to protect their country from a foreign occupation which promised much and accomplished nothing but harm and devastation.

When the last of the American troops will out of the country is of little concern. They will gradually be squeezed out, tails between their legs, still spouting slogans of Freedom and Democracy as their helicopters take the last survivors out of the country......just like they lost in Vietnam.

The whole world is now aware that America is vulnerable, as is the U.S. dollar and the U.S. economy.
