Giant marsupials roamed Australia 60,000 years ago

Saltwater Crocodile, up to thirty feet long. Present day monster. Does the Bunyip legends of the Aborigines stem from racial memories of giant animals roaming Australia when man first arrived about 60, 000 years ago? Were the giant animals a source of good easy "tucker"? The huge crocodiles of the northern billabongs that are still a danger to humans could have created these stories also. Did the first negritos who came have the hunting ability and weapons to kill the giant kangaroos and wombats? Well the giant animals are not around now, but man is. At least there is no evidence of cannibalism in aboriginal culture, though it flourished in Polynesia, Melanesia and New Guinea. Flies, sand-flies, ants and mosquitoes have been in this continent longer than anything else, and will most probably be still in force when humans have evolved into superanthropos, moving inter-dimensionally through hyper space with time-expansion mega- drives. The Diprotodontids are perhaps the best known of the Australian Megafauna. There were several species of these large herbivorous marsupials, with Diprotodon optatum being the largest. This giant was the size of a rhinoceros - three metres long (10 feet)and two metres high at the shoulder, (6.5 feet)and has the distinction of being the largest marsupial ever. Diprotodon optatum , which evolved about a million years ago and may have become extinct as recently as 15 000 years ago, has the distinction of being the largest marsupial ever. It was the size of a rhinoceros - three metres long, almost two metres high at the shoulder, and weighing as much as two tonnes. It had pillar-like legs and broad footpads, a little like those of an elephant. The Procoptodon Goliah was the largest kangaroo ever,(11.5 feet) and had a shortened flat face and forward-looking eyes. Transtemporal State of Future Man Man is still evolving and will be as different from present man in a few million years as an ape is fom a present-day human. We started off as viruses and single cells and eventually made to worms. Each cell is hardly different from a worm's even today. The giant marsupials show that lifeform may go in a number of directions. In our case, we are clever apes who might blow ourselves up or pollute ourselves into oblivion. Imagine if this animal had to be taken out daily walks several times a day to relieve itself and you were responsible for picking up the waste and putting it into large "doggie" bag! (I suppose it would be called a "diprotondie" bag.) If it was an affectionate pet it might clamber up into your super-king-size bed for its accustomed pat on the snoozle, and break a few of your ribs. It could never replace daschunds as a lapdog.

Myth of the Anzacs. Were they brutal killers?

Australian soldiers at Battle of Milne Bay.
"Yeah, we done some things we can't talk about to nobody, things we can never forget...." Many Australian soldiers were not brutal to the captured enemy, just as some Nazis did not mistreat Jews, and some dogs won't chase cats.

Would Australian soldiers abuse prisoners?"(too bloody right mate. We didn't waste a bullet. Just a bayonet through their yellow guts!)" Japanese troops mistreated prisoners, but Australian troops had a reputation for not taking any - they just shot them...................... Famous aviator Lindbergh, an observer with the Allied forces in New Guinea, recorded that most prisoners were never turned in by the Australians and that Australian troops often threw Japanese out of airplanes and then reported that they had committed suicide. Official documents contain no mention of the "take no prisoners rule".
Rebecca Barrigos In the wake of the Abu Ghraib scandal, the government and the Australian army hastened to create the impression that not only did Australians not take part in the torture of Iraqi prisoners, but that they would not - ever - do such things. However, Australia's military history is strewn with examples of mistreatment of the "enemy", often amounting to war crimes. There have been repeated reports of abuse of prisoners and crimes by ADF troops in East Timor, including the summary execution of one prisoner, sexual harassment of Timorese women, and interrogation sessions in wasp-infested toilets that ended with prisoners having their heads pushed down excrement-filled toilet bowls. A former ADF soldier told a recent SBS Insight program how Australian troops abused Somali prisoners in 1993. He described intelligence interrogators shoving rifle barrels into the mouths of detained suspects and stated that he had routinely "hog-tied" Somalis, and had witnessed Somalis being detained in barbed wire cages. The ex-soldier maintained that his training had led him to believe that these procedures were a "normal occurrence". International law stipulates that "following orders" is no defence against charges of committing atrocities. But military training is precisely designed to make soldiers obey orders immediately and uncritically. One former soldier, Darren Appleby, told Insight that prisoner abuse by ADF troops was linked to the techniques used during training. He gave the example of a session on "prisoner capture" at the Townsville barracks where trainee soldiers were told that they should just kill prisoners resisting arrest. The hospitalisation of trainee soldiers for mental breakdowns and several cases of suicide highlight the harshness of military training. In one case, an Aboriginal recruit in Townsville committed suicide after an instructor had continually taunted him about government "handouts" for Aborigines. There are countless examples of brutalities committed by senior officers against army cadets. Indeed, military training is necessarily harsh because recruits have to be desensitised so that they can kill. During training soldiers shoot at human-shaped targets so that they can associate people with targets in combat. During the Boer War of 1899-1902, the Australian colonies despatched over 16,000 men to South Africa in the service of the British Empire. The most famous of them is "Breaker" Morant, who became a lieutenant in the Bushveldt Carbineers (BVC) which was formed to fight the Boers with their own guerrilla tactics. In 1901, Morant and two other lieutenants executed eleven Boer prisoners and later shot a German missionary to prevent him reporting the killings. In the subsequent court martial, Morant tried to justify his actions on the grounds that British commander Lord Kitchener had instructed the BVC to take no prisoners. It didn't work: Morant was convicted and sentenced to death by firing squad. A later admission by Kitchener proved that Morant and his fellow officers had acted on orders from the highest link in the chain of command. The trial was an orchestrated political stunt to mollify the Germans over the killing of the German missionary and to keep them out of the war. Morant and his cronies were scapegoats for the British Empire. The story bears a striking parallel to the case of the low-ranking officers in Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison who have become scapegoats for top ranking military officials and the Bush administration. Australia's war in the Pacific during World War II is depicted as a struggle for civilisation against "Japanese militarism and barbarity", backed up by stories of the brutal treatment of prisoners in Japanese POW camps. Less well documented are the crimes of the Allies. Japanese troops may have mistreated prisoners, but Australian troops had a reputation for not taking any - they just shot them. The famous aviator Lindbergh, an observer with the Allied forces in New Guinea, recorded that most prisoners were never turned in by the Australians and that Australian troops often threw Japanese out of airplanes and then reported that they had committed suicide. Official documents contain no mention of the "take no prisoners rule". As in all wars, the active promotion by the government and the military of racist attitudes towards the enemy among both soldiers and the Australian population created the context in which such atrocities could take place. Labor Prime Minister John Curtin proclaimed that his government intended to ensure that Australia remained an "outpost of the British [i.e. white] races". In 1942, the government escalated its racist propaganda with a two-week hate campaign of newspaper ads and radio broadcasts designed to incite racial hatred of the Japanese. ABC listeners were told that "Japs have been educated to hate you from infancy", and the newspapers declared "We've always despised them, NOW WE MUST SMASH THEM". Australian troops are quite capable of committing atrocities at war because, like soldiers everywhere, they are trained and sanctioned to kill by their government. Gang rapes and other sex atrocities were not infrequent."[63] Some of the rape victims committed suicide.[63]
"A former prostitute recalled that as soon as Australian troops arrived in Kure in early 1946, they 'dragged young women into their jeeps, took them to the mountain, and then raped them. I heard them screaming for help nearly every night'."[63][64] The Allied occupation forces suppressed news of its criminal activities, on September 10 1945 SCAP "issued press and pre-censorship codes outlawing the publication of all reports and statistics 'inimical to the objectives of the Occupation'."[63]

Allan Clifton, an Australian officer of the BCOF who acted as interpreter and criminal investigator wrote:

"I stood beside a bed in hospital. On it lay a girl, unconscious, her long, black hair in wild tumult on the pillow. A doctor and two nurses were working to revive her. An hour before she had been raped by twenty soldiers. We found her where they had left her, on a piece of waste land. the hospital was in Hiroshima. the girl was Japanese. The soldiers were Australians.
The Moaning and wailing had ceased and she was quiet now. The tortured tension on her face had slipped away, and the soft brown skin was smooth and unwrinkled, stained with tears like the face of a child that has cried herself to sleep.

As to Australian justice he writes regarding another rape that was witnessed by a party of cardplayers:

"At the court martial that followed, the accused was found guilty and sentenced to ten years penal servitude. In accordance with army law the courts decision was forwarded to Australia for confirmation. Some time later the documents were returned marked 'Conviction quashed because of insufficient evidence'."[65]

The Pacific War

Among the staples of World War II mythology in Australia are stories of Japanese aggression and brutality. Tales of the horrendous treatment of prisoners-of-war and images of emaciated men on the Thai-Burma railway infuse our popular culture. Meanwhile, the equally brutal war crimes of the Allies never rate a mention. The US mass murder in Hiroshima and Nagasaki is seen as an exception in an otherwise unblemished record.

Yet the nuclear assaults were the culmination of years of Allied barbarism in the Pacific War, including the large-scale bombing of civilian populations. In one attack, over 300 aircraft devastated 40 square kilometres of Tokyo, sending perhaps 100,000 civilians to agonising, burning deaths. And the situation on the ground was no less brutal. According to a US war correspondent:

"We shot prisoners in cold blood, wiped out hospitals, strafed lifeboats, killed or mistreated enemy civilians, finished off the enemy wounded, tossed the dying into a hole with the dead, and in the Pacific boiled the flesh of enemy skulls to make table ornaments for sweethearts, or carved their bones into letter openers."

Nor did the savagery of the Allied side end with the nuclear attacks. On the contrary, five days after the bombing of Nagasaki, and four days after the Japanese government had made it clear that it intended to surrender, over 1,000 aircraft set Tokyo aflame in a horrific close to this barbaric chapter in human history.

Much of the brutality of the Pacific War seems pointless. The nuclear bombing came as the Japanese government was preparing to sue for peace: it wasn't aimed at taking Japan out of the war. But imperialist powers never have their eye on only one prize. Just as one rival is eliminated, another surfaces. As World War II transmuted into the Cold War, the USSR emerged as US capitalism's main competitor. So the nuclear attacks were not pointless brutalities directed towards an already defeated enemy, but a signal to the new enemy that Japan was "ours". By the logic of capitalism, such a message was important enough to justify nuclear slaughter.

The brutalities committed by Allied troops in the Pacific were underpinned by vast reserves of racism. In Australia, the Sydney Morning Herald pronounced, "We've always despised them, NOW WE MUST SMASH THEM":

The Japs have been educated to hate you from infancy. They have been preparing for a war like this since they were old enough to understand...

As Japan has sowed, so shall she reap, and her harvest shall be a harvest of hate. For we, prepared from birth in the ways of peace have been aroused to a cold fury...

The irony is that it was the Australian ruling class that had been stoking up frenzied anti-Japanese racism since the start of the century. It would be laughable if it wasn't so revolting.

This despicable racism tells us something about why it is so important to oppose the myth about World War II: it is a touchstone for racism and nationalism, implying that our rulers hold in common with us an interest in democracy and freedom. Every story about the "justness" of the Allied side's actions in World War II is an important foundation for convincing us that the wars they wage today must have some humanitarian basis, making it seem that much less likely that our governments could be the aggressors in a profit-driven war. So, despite widespread cynicism about the current war in Iraq, it is seen as the exception not the rule - the product of Bush and Howard's deluded foreign policy, rather than the latest in a long history of imperialist wars waged in the interests of the rich.

Israel accused of ramming Gaza aid ship

Activists trying to bring aid to Gaza today claimed their boat had been rammed by Israeli gunboats in a "criminal attack" in international waters.

The Free Gaza Movement said its vessel, the Dignity, was intercepted by several Israeli vessels as it was heading to the Gaza Strip, which has been under Israeli aerial bombardment since Saturday.

One gunboat rammed the Dignity on the port bow side, causing heavy damage, although no one was hurt, the group said.

"[The Dignity] is taking on water and appears to have engine problems," the movement said on its website. "When attacked, the Dignity was clearly in international waters, 90 miles off the coast of Gaza.

"The gunboats also fired their machine guns into the water in an attempt to stop the mercy ship from getting to Gaza.

"Israel thumbs its nose in the face of maritime law by attacking a human rights boat in international waters and has put all of these human rights observers at risk.

"At no time was the Dignity ever close to Israeli waters. They clearly identified themselves and the Israeli attack was willful and criminal."

The group said the attack took place as the Dignity carried three tonnes of medical supplies at the request of doctors in Gaza.

The crew and passengers were hoping to treat some of those injured in four days of the Israeli air strikes, with hospitals in the territory overwhelmed.

Move elephants into Australia, scientist proposes

Feb. 1, 2012

and World Science staff

Australia may need an infusion of elephants and other large mammals to solve its persistent ecological and wildfire problems, a scientist proposes.

Ecologist David Bowman of the University of Tasmania in Australia cites out-of-control fires and burgeoning feral-animal populations as quandaries afflicting the Land Down Under. Both could be solved by introducing large mammals, as well as paying aboriginal hunters to control the feral animals and restore the old practice of patch burning, he argues. Patch burning is a form of controlled burning intended to clean out and renew biological resources.

“I realize that there are major risks associated with what I am proposing,” as any tinkering with the environment can lead to unplanned consequences, said Bowman. “But the usual approaches to managing these issues aren’t working.”

Bowman describes his idea in this week’s issue of the research journalNature.

Feb. 7 will mark the three-year anniversary of “Black Saturday,” when nearly 200 people died in a massive firestorm in southern Australia. Fires are a constant concern in the continent, said Bowman, but so are its thriving populations of feral pigs, camels, horses and cattle, among others.

Bowman proposes to manage Australia’s troubled ecosystem by introducing beasts such as elephants, rhinoceros and even Komodo dragons. These would help consume flammable grasses and control feral-animal populations, he argues.

The largest living land mammal native to Australia is the red kangaroo, which as an adult weighs about as much as an average man. Larger mammals used to roam the continent—such as a hippo-sized marsupial related to the wombat and called diprotodon, from the Great Ice Age—but they are no more.

The deliberate introduction by humans of populations of oversized, non-native mammals to a new continent would be unprecedented in modern times. One group, though, has proposed introducing large African mammals into the Great Plains of the United States, for somewhat different reasons than those motivating Bowman.

William Nash came to Australia as a Marine with the First Fleet 1788
William and Mariah's first child, William, was baptised on Sunday 25th May 1788
A wedding was celebrated at St Phillip's, Sydney, on 13 February 1789, between William Nash, a marine, and Maria Haynes, a convict, in the presence of Elizabeth Gratten and Samuel Barnes (Chaplain's clerk)
Mariah Haynes is not listed in John Cobley's 'Crimes of the First Fleet Convicts'
By 1803 William & Maria had separated, and she took the children with her. Maria later became associated with two other men, Robert Guy and in 1816, with William Neale.

6 Children1. William Nash born on 25 May 1788, buried on Friday 19th June 1789, a marine's child.
2. John Nash baptised 15 Jan 1792 (a family source names him William)
3. Mary Nash born 2 March 1793 and baptised 2 April
4. William Nash born 27 March 1795 and baptised 4 May
5. George Nash born 26 July 1797
6. Sarah Nash was born 16 Nov 1798
6. Sarah Nash 16 Nov 1798 wed on the 15th January 1814 at St John's, Parramatta, to John Williams (a convict), 13 children

On 25th April 2010 Stephen Hawking, leading academic and cosmologist, told the Sunday Times: “We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn’t want to meet. I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonise whatever planets they can reach.” He also points out that making contact with aliens could be very risky, stating: “If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn’t turn out very well for the Native Americans.”

The name derives from cunt, the Middle English term forfemale genitalia, and the act of groping. There was also a Gropecunt Lane inDublin, Ireland near where the Savoy Cinema is now. Later sensibilities changed many names of streets bearing this name to more polite variations.

In London, the street that was Gropecunt Lane was near the present-day site of the Barbican Centre in the City of London. The street was called Grub Street in the 18th century, but renamed Milton Street in 1830 . Another street with a similar history in Southwark is Horselydown Lane ("whores lie down"), which is just to the south of Tower Bridge, and was also the site of the famousAnchor Brewhouse.

We come in Third with Williams.

Williams

is a patronymic form of the name William that originated in medieval England[2] and later came to be extremely popular in Wales. The meaning is derived from son or descendant of Guillemin, the French form of William. Derived from an Old French given name with Germanicelements; will = desire, will; and helm = helmet, protection.[3] It is the second most common surname in Wales and the third most common surname in the whole of the United Kingdom, the third most common in the United States of America and Australia and the fifth most common inNew Zealand.[4]

Old Harry Williams was asked how was it that the long list of Williams lead by far those of Nash over the last couple of hundred years.

"Well, let's see.Them Nashes they was more posh and they kept the family bible, so we lot had nothing to read at night. There was no T.V. in them days, and we didn't want to waste candles, so we used to all jump in bed together and make more Williams's."

Australia. The first fleet sailed from England in 1787 carrying marine William Nash and his common law wife Maria Haynes. They were the progenitors of an extensive Nash family in Australia. Another early settler was Andrew Nash. He had acquired the Woolpack Inn in Parramatta in 1821 and became well-known for the prowess of his racehorses. A later settler from Wiltshire was James Nash. He discovered gold along the Mary river in Queenland and helped precipitate the second Australian gold rush.

There were also Nash convicts in Australia. Some thrived; Robert Nash, transported on the Albemarle in 1791; John Nash on the Eleanor in 1831; and Michael Nash from Limerick, on the Rodney in 1851.

This is my niece in the Philippines who
needs serious attention from some sincere young man.

Neither here nor there.

If a man was on an escalator, but walking back down it and the elevator was located in a revolving restaurant on a large airliner going in a southerly direction and the earth was revolving on its axis and at the same time was travelling in an elliptical path around the sun, which was travelling around the galaxy, which was expanding......how many movements was the man travelling in?

Wild man of North Australia.

I met Michael (Tarzan) Fomenko(shown here at 81 years) son of a Russian Princess when I was 18 and he was twenty. He was a handsome young man. I was in love with his sister Nina Fomenko, who was gracious to me but held my ardour at arms' length. In later years I met her in North Queensland where she and her husband Brian Patrick Donnellan were cutting cane. They had no mattress to sleep on, so I bought them one. Nina was always beautiful. Toonoom Falls
Situated in the heart of Royal National Park to the south of Sydney, Toonoum Falls is a pretty, 5 metre high waterfall alongside Sir Bertram Steven Drive not far from the Garie turnoff. The photo shows the falls in flood.
Location: Royal National Park.

In the fifties, I lived close to here in a rock shelter once used by Aborigines. I used to swim in this creek a little further down the hill. My family thought I was crazy and I probably was, but life here on the edge of the National Park was idyllic if you could bear the flies, mosquitoes, snakes and centipedes.. (Ric)

*The Australian Lyre Bird is the world's best imitator; able to mimic the calls of 15 different species of birds in their locality and string the calls into a melody. Also been known to mimic the sound mobile phones.

*The echidna is such a unique animal that it is classified in a special class of mammals known asmonotremes, which it shares only with the platypus. The echidna lays eggs like a duck but suckles its young in a pouch like a kangaroo. For no apparent reason, it may decide to conserve energy by dropping its body temperature to 4 degrees and remain at that temperature from 4 to 120 days. Lab experiments have shown that the echidna is more intelligent that a cat and it has been seen using its spikes, feet and beaks to climb up crevices like a mountaineer edging up a rock chimney.

*Purple wallaby - The Purple-neck Rock Wallaby [Petrogale Purpureicollis], inhabits the Mt Isa region in Northwest Queensland. The Wallaby secretes a dye that transforms its face and neck into colours ranging from light pink to bright purple.

*The Fierce Snake or Inland Taipan has the most toxic venom of any snake. Maximum yield recorded (for one bite) is 110mg. That would probably be enough to kill over 100 people or 250,000 mice.

*The Wombat deposits square poos on logs, rocks and even upright sticks that it uses tomark its territory.

*A 10kg Tasmanian Devil is able to exert the same biting pressure as a 40kg dog. It can also eat almost a third of its body weight in a single feeding.

*Australia is the smallest, flattest, and driest inhabited continent in the world. It is the only country which is also a whole continent.

*Over 90% of Australia is dry, flat and arid. Almost three-quarters of the land cannot support agriculture in any form.

*A baby kangaroo at the time of its birth measures 2 centimetres.

birth of joey http://zzz262.multiply.com/video/item/1831

*Kangaroos need very little water to survive and are capable of going for months without drinking at all. When they do need water, they dig 'wells' for themselves; frequently going as deep as three or four feet. These 'kangaroo pits' are a common source of water for other animals living in the kangaroo's environment.

Kangaroo attacks dog, man. ^

*A kangaroo being chased by a dog may jump into a dam. If the dog gives chase, the kangaroo may turn towards the dog, then use its paws to push the dogs head underwater in order to drown it.

*Emus and kangaroos cannot walk backwards, and are on the Australian coat of arms for that reason.

*A monotreme is a animal that lays eggs and suckles its young. The world's only monotremes are the platypus and the echidna.

*The male platypus has a poisonous spine that can kill a dog and inflict immense pain on a human.

*When a specimen of the platypus was first sent to England, it was believed the Australians had played a joke by sewing the bill of a duck onto a rat.

*Box Jelly fish - The box jellyfish is considered the world's most venomous marine creature. The box jellyfish has killed more people in Australia than stonefish, sharks and crocodiles combined.

*The Sydney Funnelweb spider is considered the world's most deadly spider. It is the only spider that has killed people in less than 2 hours. Its fangs are powerful enough to bite through gloves and fingernails. The only animals without immunity to the funnelweb's venom are humans and monkeys.

*Lung fish - Queensland is home to lung fish, a living fossil from the Triassic period 350 million years ago.

Convicts

*It is estimated that by the time transportation ended in 1868, 40 per cent of Australia's English-speaking population were convicts.
*A census taken in 1828 found that half the population of NSW were Convicts, and that former Convicts made up nearly half of the free population.

*In 2007, it was estimated that 22 per cent of living Australians had a convict ancestor.

*Convicts were not sent to Australia for serious crimes. Serious crimes, such as murder, rape, or impersonating an Egyptian were given the death sentence in England.

*Crimes punishable by transportation included recommending that politicians get paid, starting a union, stealing fish from a river or pond, embezzlement, receiving or buying stolen goods, setting fire to underwood, petty theft, or being suspected of supporting Irish terrorism.

* Alcohol- It has been reported that the first European settlers in Australia drank more alcohol per head of population than any other community in the history of mankind.

* Police force - Australia's first police force was a band of 12 of the most well behaved Convicts.

* Mass moonings - In 1832, 300 female Convicts at the Cascade Female Factory mooned the Governor of Tasmania during a chapel service. It was said that in a "rare moment of collusion with the Convict women, the ladies in the Governor's party could not control their laughter.
