The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is a civilian intelligence agency of the United Statesgovernment. Its primary function is obtaining and analyzing information about foreign governments, corporations, and persons in order to advise public policymakers. Additionally, the agency sometimes engages in propaganda and public relations efforts.[5] It also serves as the government's paramilitary hidden hand via covert operations at the direction of the President[6] Its headquarters is in the community of Langley in the McLean CDP of Fairfax County, Virginia, a few miles northwest from downtown Washington, D.C. along the Potomac River. The CIA is part of the U.S. Intelligence Community, led by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). The role and functions of the CIA are roughly equivalent to those of the United Kingdom's Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), the Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS) and Israel's Mossad. and under oversight by Congress.
The CIA is sometimes referred to euphemistically in government and military parlance as Other Government Agencies (or OGA), particularly when its operations in a particular area are an open secret.[7][8] Other terms include The Company and The Agency.
America needs the C.I.A. but what about all these rumors it was implicated in drug smuggling, gun-running, assassinations and arrest and detention without trial? I guess they were just rumors, not based on fact, right? An ex member of the Gestapo once said to me (he has died a natural death ten years ago) " "The C.I.A. is not the Gestapo. There are differences. For example we spoke German and they speak American." I don't know much about censorship on most parts of the internet. I have found though that my blogs relating to atrocities committed by U.S, and coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are censored by deletion. I suspect the numbers of Trojan horses and other viruses directed at my computer is done for a specific purpose. This happens even when I question the Canadian Government actions and Canadian troops in Afghanistan. I am continually rewriting articles that are changed after several hours or days and deleted of their main features. This shows me that the internet like most other aspects of media is controlled by the forces for war, including big international business that makes tremendous profits from world disharmony, with the aid of government agencies. It makes me reassess my previous opposition to armed guerrilla movements. I think in the most part they are ineffective, but in some points of history, such as the American Revolution, they become necessary. Have the ideals of America of the past ( an America admired, even loved by so many millions in the world) become so distorted that another great change must take place to purge the cancerous leeches sucking away America's Dream of liberty, fraternity and the peaceful pursuit of happiness? I once believed acts of conscience contrary to repressive or antisocial legislation, imposed to curb movements or freedoms , to be disruptive. It seemed persuasion of the public point of view would be more effective. I am beginning to wonder about that. Legislative aberrations such as the Patriot Act (reminiscent of an earlier German regime ) and its spawned morally illegitimate " Homeland Security" (are we more secure?) are overreactions to the terrorist acts, which rightly shocked America. The horrible bombings should have made us all wonder whether America's role (often seen as bully) in the world should be changed. It made me question why an American administration which had gained office perhaps by subterfuge, blamed Iraq and Afghanistan for acts of terror against America, when all the evidence seemed to lead to connections with Saudi Arabia . (Even the Saudi Royal family?) Those leads were not followed up, because Bush and his behind- the- scenes associates had the excuse they wanted to invade peripheral countries for oil and profit. And again President Bush has close connections to the oil business in Saudi Arabia, and even the Bin Laden family. The C.I.A. when Bush senior was in charge bankrolled Osama Bin Laden and his group. We all should have mused that maybe America should not interfere in so many other countries, bomb civilians, kill innocent children, use torture, cluster bombs, weapons with "expended" uranium and talk tommy-rot (b.s.) about bringing democracy and freedom, when the real purpose was acquisition of natural resources and stripping alternate systems of government of their power. Then the ensuing power vacuum would let in big corporations to tie up assets and milk the economy for corporate profit. Of course, I do not agree with taking direct steps or using violent means, (especially when I legally may not advocate it) nor am I sure one should fight back using disruptive means through the internet, but at least I can now understand why these things happen, which is simply because other more peaceful avenues are blocked by insidious controls. It makes a lie to the pretense that we are living under a democratic system with free speech. You are free to say what will not disrupt the system. There is really a great octopus or oligarchy operating for power and profit, mostly in the face of popular opposition or at least for those individuals who take the time to think about things at all. I doubt that this statement will be censored, because agencies and internet providers realize that most readers will skip over this stuff and only an occasional person will take studied notice. The public is so apathetic and gullible, that it believes there are real choices electing a government, and that a government once elected might counter the warlike activities of big business which are in control of most countries' political and economic systems.. The "powers that be" are more concerned with censoring graphic images, as society has become semi-illiterate and is conditioned by propaganda and advertising through graphic symbols. Protest is muted by apathy caused by excessive media propaganda, political lies and misrepresentation of truth. Propaganda is advertising's big brother. I'm not sure why I am doing this. At 76 I have only a few years left. I guess it is because I think that someone, who sees things on the voyage of life going astray, should at least try to tell the passengers that the captain is mad ,the crew is corrupt and there is a great storm of destruction coming soon. Now is the time to change course. I do not believe all will work out all right in the end. It didn't for the dinosaurs and many other species. "But we are not dinosaurs," you say. Well our thinking is fossilized and we might soon be as dead as the dodo, not just because of global warming but simply because Man (homo sapiens?) is unwilling to cooperate with his fellow man of differing races and ideologies.. If we don't have cooperation to find resolutions to world problems, we will soon have mutual self-destruction. That is logically sure. No doubt about it. Again , should we just leave it to God and go about our business denying there is anything effective to be done? Well, that presumed entity hasn't shown itself to me yet and I kind of doubt there are any pearly gates to pass through to eternal bliss, when my body is rotting away....for me or for any other life-form , either human, ant or microbe (which are all part of our genetic family.) So if there aint no God, then we sure have to take over responsibility. Mankind is not so adept in the responsibility field or in the thinking out a problem and consequences field either. For those who bothered to read this, those who understood it and the fewer who agree with it, thanks, maybe there is a slight hope. Ric Williams. If there are any facts y0u think I have wrong, email me and i will discuss it on this blog with anyone. Good. Immediate response. I like that. An acquaintance has phoned me that it could be construed that I am advocating some kind of civil disobedience even via the internet. Well I am not. I am wondering about its effectiveness and I think it would probably screw up the system to the extent it could not be used for all the informative any useful activities that is the very basis for the internet's existence. In fact, I am against any censorship, even of ideas those I am completely against. I believe in the free interchange of information, though some may be bogus or distasteful. If a guy whispers in a girl's ear during intimacy "I love you darling and I want to stay with you forever, the girl feels reassured but I am sure she does not always believe it. The guy might momentarily believe it himself until the next girl is in bed with him. We are all fallible and fickle, egotistic and untrustworthy to some degree. Our institutions and governments all have these same human traits. They are in our image. Rather than Man being in God's image, maybe God is a kind of an internet (exponentially: internet without end on many levels of meaning and existences) and is in Man's mental image. I wonder about that little man in my computer who beats me at scrabble most of the time. Does he have a smile of triumph on his non-face? The internet is the same. Let us be warned." Know thyself. You are your own worst enemy. To thyself be true". We act irrationally often and not in our own best interests.. How often have we heard such things, but we don't always take heed and so end up pregnant or with Aids, in jail, broke or sick and dying..... or lonely, cut off from society. Well, "Life is not just a bed of roses." "Count your blessings while ye may!" If you have gout (as I have) see a one-legged man and feel much better. We don't always trust ourselves or our own judgment. Even our wives or girlfriends have their secrets and so they should have, because humans are too liable to take advantage of another, even a loved one. Many years ago in the sixties in Contra Costa County, California in the heady days of hippiedom, was persuaded to try peyote, which I did just once. One of the experiences that came was a realization that each of us is an island universe, preoccupied with ourselves but with tentacles out to other island universes. We need those tentacles (connections) or our personality will become estranged and wither. "We are just players on the stage of life".... " Here today, gone tomorrow". *
