Todd Stroger is Barack Obama’s legacy in Chicago. In 2006, Obama helped save Cook County’s Political Machine Dynasty by endorsing Stroger for Cook County board president as “a good, progressive Democrat.” In doing so, he preserved the status quo in Chicago and thwarted a serious attempt by bipartisan reformers to clean up their city’s politics. Immediately after being elected with Obama’s blessing, Stroger laid off hundreds of nurses and dozens of prosecutors in Cook County, and to push (successfully) for higher sales taxes, giving Chicago the highest tax rate of any major American city (a combined 10.25 percent).
How many Americans know that in 1990, as governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton pardoned a known drug dealer who dealt drugs to high school girls he regularly had sex with in his apartment.
The drug dealer's name is Dan Lasater. Lasater, who likes to correct people and say he was simply a drug "distributor" because he gave the nose candy away for free, was once a high-rolling bond dealer whose original fortune was made through the Ponderosa Steak House chain, which he founded and later sold at an immense profit.
Lasater was, of course, one of Clinton's biggest financial backers during the 1980s – a time when he was also the recipient of Arkansas state bond deals estimated at some $637 million.
During that period, Bill and Hillary Clinton enjoyed a close personal relationship with Lasater, traveling on his corporate jet and vacationing at Angel Fire, the financier's 17,000-acre New Mexico resort.
Lasater's meteoric financial rise took a nosedive in the late 1980s when he became a known cocaine user. (There are reports of his having openly dispensed it in bowls and ashtrays at parties. Some reports have Clinton at the parties as well.)
Lasater was eventually snared by federal authorities and in 1986 was convicted of cocaine distribution. He served six months of a 30-month sentence.
In 1990, Gov. Bill Clinton issued his friend a full pardon.http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2001/3/7/01143.shtml
Our cruelty to Obama's family is no excuse for fresh tyranny
Last week, it was revealed that Barack Obama's paternal grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, was imprisoned and tortured by the British authorities in Kenya during colonial rule in the late Forties and early Fifties. According to his third wife, whom the President-elect calls 'Granny Sarah', the experience left Hussein Onyango with a lifelong bitterness towards Britain. And not surprisingly. One of the tortures he was subjected to was to have his testicles squeezed between metal rods. By Sarah Onyango's account, her husband was also regularly beaten throughout two years of incarceration by both African guards and British soldiers. Many of his fellow inmates were beaten to death. Obama's grandfather's arrest in 1949 came three years before the Mau Mau uprising that was put down with murderous ferocity by the British. In her book Britain's Gulag, American historian Caroline Elkins suggests that up to 100,000 Kenyans died in detention. Most historians put the figure considerably lower, but without doubt many thousands of Kenyans perished in horrendous conditions. |
